Filling the Gap Lunches for Kids
Spring Break 2020: March 16-20
Snack Donation Day at the Food Bank:
March 6 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Some of Wichita's most vulnerable children face the risk of hunger during vacations. Partners for Wichita, Kansas Food Bank, and caring people are partners in meeting this hunger need.
Filling the Gap reaches hungry kids during spring break and the last weeks of summer because hunger does not take a vacation!
There is a day for collecting healthy snacks at the Kansas Food Bank before each session of Filling the Gap Lunches for Kids. Items include individual fruit and pudding cups, beef sticks, cheese and cracker dippers, healthy snack bars, raisins, nuts, and other nutritious, kid-friendly, individually packaged snacks.
Following is the suggested shopping list:

Partners for Wichita, area congregations, agencies, organizations, and individuals come together to serve free nutritious lunches for children and youth during Spring Break and the last weeks of summer vacation before school starts. We reach about 800 children and youth a day with healthy meals, fresh fruit, and snacks. During 2019 Spring Break, 3965 meals were served. and during the last two weeks of summer vacation in 2019, 7050 meals were served!
Vision screening is offered by Medical Service Bureau at several locations.
Hula hoops add exercise and fun along with healthy meals.
Books are given to take home, thanks to a wonderful donation from AT&T Pioneers.
One mother said, "This makes a big difference to my children and our family!"
A child wrote, "Thank you for helping me with a very good lunch."
Another mother said, "Thank you for these meals. It means I don't have to worry about how to feed my kids these days."
Groups, congregations, individuals, businesses, and foundations make this possible with donations of funds, healthy snacks and volunteers. Looking ahead, funds may be donated on this website or mailed to Partners for Wichita (designate Filling the Gap Lunches), 925 N. Waco. Wichita, KS 67203.
