Filling The Gap

Free summer lunches keeping kids fed when school is out.

Partners for Wichita participated in Filling the Gap this summer on August 18 & 25, 2025. We were able to provide volunteers to help distribute the boxes of food that the Kansas Food Bank provided.

Filling the Gap provides shelf stable meals to kids in Wichita and the surrounding metro area during spring break in 5 locations along with the last two weeks of summer when the USD 259 program ends. Select locations distribute a week’s worth of lunches for kids to make sure they had access to food during the time that school meals are not available.

When school lets out for the summer, thousands of Wichita kids lose access to the free and reduced-price meals they depend on during the school year. Filling the Gap steps in to bridge that need. Every summer, Partners for Wichita coordinates free lunch service at five locations across the city, ensuring that no child in our community has to go hungry just because school isn't in session.
